a day in the life of a tropical storm

it's really no wonder to me that kate doesn't seem to gain much weight. she is non-stop from the time she gets up to the time she goes down. and going down is often a restless down...

she manages to imitate adults to an astonishing degree. i weighed myself the other morning so she tapped the scale with her foot, just like i did, got up on it, just like i did, and stared down at the number in disbelief, just like i did. heh heh. :) can't you just see her saying, "that can't be right..." She did seem quite proud of herself for gaining a little bit of weight. She's now 18.6 pounds. Go Kate!

there are a number of things she finds to play with on my desk. sunglasses for instance. the real tragedy of the thing is that everyone thinks i'm the one making the small hurricane of papers and such at the base of my desk...

the cats and kate have come to a hidden arrangement. they will open the bathroom door for her if she will pull the toilet paper down the hall for them to chase. symbiosis.

she likes making music and has actually achieved blowing, a somewhat elusive task for many kids. she puts it to good use. she cools her food, blows into kleenex (with her mouth, not her nose) and her favourite, playing my penny whistle. she's not quiet about it but it cracks everyone up to see her little one-man band marching around.

kate has some strange affinity for water. dinner time usually consists of her stirring someone's water glass until it looks like river water due to the things left on the fork from previous stirring. we decided to remedy the situation by giving her a bowl of her own in which to stir the many things ingredients picked up by her fork. she was quite pleased. obviously.

and that is a basic day in the life of tropical storm kate. what a nice day, laughed an awful lot. boy am i tired.

Easter Feasters

Kate got a little Easter basket from the bunny. She had no hesitation in diving right in.

We dyed Easter eggs - well, Kate didn't seem very interested and mostly just wanted to toss the dyed eggs.
Kate got a new dress for Easter. Grandma Skene saw it at the store and had fits so that had to be the dress! She also tried out her new swing for the first time since the weather is warming up a little (okay, it did snow yesterday and more coming this weekend, but it WAS nice for a bit) and she seemed to have a pretty good time.

Nathan, Kim, Grant, Meghan, and Ainsley came up to feast with us but we had to get down to Easter hunt business first of course. Each egg had an initial on it of who was to find it so it was a little harder for the older kids. Grant's last egg was hidden in the sprinkler box and when someone mentioned there were spiders in there he quickly whipped his hand out. We said there weren't really spiders, it was alright but he wouldn't get it so Meghan got it out for him.

Kate dropped one of her eggs and realized there was candy inside. It was hard to get her to keep looking for them after that... Ainsley "helped" her gather the fallen candy. ;)

After dinner all the grandkids did the dishes. We've decided this should be a regular thing. Heh heh.

oy does time fly by

kate seems to be getting bigger though at each doctor appointment she remains in the 2% for weight though she's in the 71% for height. At her last appointment she squatted in her default position and the doctor stopped what she was saying and asked if Kate sat like that a lot. I said yes, all the time. She said, "Well no wonder she's not gaining weight, she's always in weight lifting training!" Indeed, she has hamstrings of steel!! We're trying to get her to gain a little more so she doesn't have to go through blood testing for lack of growth possiblities. The problem is that she immediately works off any calorie she just ate. She's SO busy all the time! And very very smart. I'm a little scared about that one.

Her cousins came up for a birthday party for grandma and they tried on little spiky hair things grandpa brought back after one of his trips. They all kind of look like the Simpsons.

Kate likes to run away after she gets out of the bath because she HATES getting dressed.

Kate decided to try the toilet paper out one day and trailed it down the hall with her. Daphne (our kitty) thought that was a new toy and chased the toilet paper.

Kate looks so adorable in almost everything but her little Scottish outfit is one of my favorites!

She loves taking walks, especially when we borrow the dog from next door to take with us. The dog likes it too. :)

This month I am going to start working another day each week on top of my grave and my day shift. It'll be hard to be without Kate for another day but I love being a tech and it's good to be able to get out of the house and talk to adults too. I've been thinking a lot lately about my brothers and sis-in-law in Philly and am so excited for them to be closer or at least to come visit!
